Yes, in case you did not know, there are certain fonts that people use, prefer, or try to stick to, when they are creating a legal document.

Now, while a lot of people would think that these fonts don’t really matter much, you need to understand a few things.

For starters, fonts provide a certain degree of readability to the documents. And this is something that is applicable for both online and offline docs.

Additionally, you have to keep in mind that there might be certain requirements when creating these documents. And needless to say, the legal font (size and style) falls under this professional aspect.

So, if you are planning to make a document and want to stick to a legal font that will make your document stand out, keep on reading this blog till the end…

What Legal Font Is Used For Legal Documents

If I have not been able to make it clear to you as of yet, you need to stick to certain legal fonts in documents. While the most popular one is Times New Roman, there are several new ones that have been popping up recently.

And just in case you were thinking, there is a reason why people choose certain fonts over others for their legal document. It is mainly because you neeed to make these legal documents professional, clean, and easy to read.

Now, I want to tell you one more thing: there is NO official font style when it comes to preparing the docs. However, there are some legal fonts that the court has approved.

So, what are these? Here is a list of all the legal fonts that you need to know about:

Times New Roman

The first one on the list is my personal favorite, Times New Roman. This is a classic font that a lot of industries use for its high readability and professional look.

Originally created for typing or printing in newspapers, Times New Roman is one of the most popular fonts as it provides the readers with the clarity they need while reading. And that is not all.

In case you did not know, this legal font is the only one that makes it easier for you to fit a lot of texts on one page. And this is something that is very crucial when it comes to lengthy legal documents.

Arial

Second on the list of the best legal fonts that you can use for your document is Arial. This popular sans-serif font is probably one of the easiest fonts to read. It is simple, straight, and clear.

And isn’t that all of us want at the end of the day. I mean, your legal document might be complicated with all the legalities and complex terms. But at least the font you have used can make things a little better!

Most people consider Arial font to be highly legible. It is clean and universally available. This also makes it easier to read on screens as well as on print outs.

Also, in case you need a small trivia, Aria is also one of the most court-approved fonts for legal documents.

Calibri

Third, we have Calibri. I know it is not really a personal favorite for most people, however, it is the default font when it comes to applications from Microsoft Office. This also makes it readily available for most people.

Apart from that, Calibri is also clean and easy to read. And this is something very important when it comes to digital documents. And yes, considering the fact that most of the legal documents are viewed digitally on electronic gadgets, this is a must.

Additionally, those of us who do not gel well with traditional fonts like the Times New Roman (a popular serif font) prefer Calibri. This sans-serif font gives them a simpler and more modern look that they need.

Helvetica

Just like all the other legal fonts that I have mentioned above, Helvetica is a popular choice. It is clean, simpler, and easy to read.

Similar to Calibri, this sans-serif font is a professional choice for many people who want to keep things neutral. Furthermore, people who generally prefer avoiding unnecessary distractions when it comes to readability often choose this font.

Courier New

Finally on this list of the best legal fonts that you can choose is Courier New. Now, while not a lot of people use this font on a regular basis, this is the font that provides you with consistent spacing between the characters.

And that’s not all. Courier New is also one of those very few fonts that mimics the appearance of a typewriter. This is a great way through which you can show a sense of uniformity and professionalism.

Serif vs Sans Serif_ Which Legal Font is Better

First things first, what really is the difference between Serif vs Sans Serif? And which one is better when it comes to being a legal font?

So, let me explain what these fonts are about. Now, serif is basically the decorative line that is present on the letter’s stem (the tails or the feet). This decoration is something that serif fonts have. On the other hand, sans serif fonts don’t have this. Hence the prefix “sans.”

But which of these do you need for your legal document?

If you are trying to go for a more traditional look, it is best to stick to a serif font. It is a greater choice if your primary objective is to appear trustworthy and reliable while keeping the readability intact.

On the other hand, when it comes to being modern and more flexible, you can choose sans serif fonts. These make your (or your document) appear more youthful, free, approachable and modern.

In conclusion, Times New Roman is one of the most popular legal fonts that you can use for your legal document. However, what truly matters is the content of your document.

In other words, even if the font that you are choosing is supposed to make the doc look trustworthy, it ultimately is in your hands to keep that trust.

I hope you liked reading this blog, in case you were searching for legal fonts to try for your doc. If there are any other questions that you might have related to the same, please feel free to let me know.
