Michael Irvin has returned to NFL Network after his long hiatus. He got back on Sunday after his long suspension since 2023’s February. The suspension came when a woman accused him of improper conduct. He had allegedly displayed indecent behavior at a hotel where the complainant worked.
The Dallas Morning News has reported that Irvin, the Hall of Fame receiver, has finally settled the claims with the complainant and the hotel she worked at. The claim amount is $100 million.
The settlement came after a defamation lawsuit against Marriott International and the complainant.
Now that the settlement is successfully completed, NFL Media, the company that operates the NFL Network, has decided to lift its indefinite suspension of Irvin, the former Dallas Cowboys star.
The amount of the settlement that Irvin has received has not yet been disclosed.
Details Of The Complaint
In her complaint, the woman accused Irvin of making lewd comments and unwarranted physical contact. The alleged behavior took place in a conversation with her on the 5th of February, 2023.
The location of the alleged incident was in the lobby of the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown, a luxurious hotel owned by the Marriott.
Following the claims, NFL Network suspended him. The suspension caused him to miss the Super Bowl.
This much-disputed suspension continued through the spring, causing him to miss the NFL draft as well.
Irvin proceeded to sue the woman and Marriott group around the same time that she filed the complaint. His lawsuit stated that he was being wrongfully accused of misconduct.
Irvin’s Statements
According to Irvin’s statements, he only shook the woman’s hand while engaging in a brief conversation on the way to his room. Later on that night, he was surprised when the hotel security escorted him out of the property. While so much was going on, the hotel authorities did not even inform him why he was being removed.
On his first NFL Network appearance back, Irvin participated in “NFL GameDay Morning,” previewing Week 1 matchups and predicting the production of wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Michael Thomas. He said that Thomas playing with new quarterback Derek Carr “will be a great combination.”
First Day Back
On his first day back after suspension, Irvin gave his pick for the highly-anticipated Monday Night Football game. Aaron Rodgers is scheduled to make his debut with the New York Jets against the Buffalo Bills.
“The Jets going to win this game and the Jets are actually going to make the playoffs and the Bills will not,” Irvin said. “I just gave you a little extra since I haven’t been around in a while.”
