More than ten years after his passing, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, is making headlines again. There are talks of a potential reopening of lawsuits against him filed by his alleged victims.
The lawsuits were filed by Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who claim to have suffered sexual abuse by the late singer. A court in California is reviewing these lawsuits. Their stories were recently brought to light in the HBO documentary “Finding Neverland” from 2019.
Both individuals filed lawsuits against MJJ Productions Inc. and MJJ Ventures Inc. Both of these companies have been linked to Jackson. These cases emerged after Jackson’s death in 2009, with Robson’s lawsuit in 2013 and Safechuck’s in the following year. The appeals court’s decision will determine whether these cases will be revisited.
Robson’s lawsuit clearly stated that Michael Jackson had abused him during his youth and formative years. The abuse continued over a span of seven years while he was still a minor. The lawsuit states that their first-ever encounter occurred when Mr. Robson was just a kid of five years. Now he is an adult aged 40. Mr. Robson also gained recognition for serving as the lead choreographer for Britney Spears’ tour. He also served as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance.
Safechuck’s story is about when he met Michael Jackson at nine years old while they were making a Pepsi ad. Now he’s 45, and he says Jackson gave him gifts so he wouldn’t disclose the abuse that was being endured by him.
This is not the first time Jackson has faced these allegations. In 1993 there were similar allegations against him. However, it all was settled quietly. Then, in 2005, Jackson was even presented to court for something similar but denied the claims. The legal battle continues for now.
