On Wednesday, President Joe Biden appealed to Republicans, urging additional military support for Ukraine. He cautioned that a Russian triumph could escalate into NATO ally attacks and involve U.S. troops in the conflict.
The U.S. prepared to disclose $175 million in extra aid to Ukraine. On the other hand, Biden hinted at alterations in migration policies along the Mexico border to garner Republican backing.
“If Putin takes Ukraine, he won’t stop there, we’ll have something that we don’t seek and that we don’t have today: American troops fighting Russian troops,” the US President said.
“We can’t let Putin win,” he added.
The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, labeled Biden’s remarks on a possible U.S.-Russia conflict as “provocative rhetoric unsuitable for a responsible nuclear power.”
Yet on Wednesday, Senate Republicans obstructed Democratic-sponsored legislation. They aimed to offer billions in fresh security aid for Ukraine, Israel, and other global issues. They aimed to emphasize the significance of stricter border policies.
This week, the White House warned that the U.S. is rapidly depleting resources to aid Ukraine against Russia’s invasion.
Jake Sullivan, White House national security adviser, affirmed the U.S.’s stance against pressuring Ukraine into talks with Russia. They are also reinforcing Ukraine’s defense industry with Reuters.
“That’s going to have to be up to them. We’re just going to keep fighting day in and day out to try to secure this money,” Sullivan added.
