The officials of the United States Government have brought about charges of espionage against its ex-ambassador. The shocking new development took place on Monday. The individual now faces a charge of spying for around 40 years for the government of Cuba.
According to the Justice Department of the US, it may be one of the furthest reaching and longest-lasting foreign threats.
Victor Manuel Rocha is the disputed individual in question. He served as an ambassador of the U.S. to Bolivia. His services lasted from the year 2000 to 2002.
The government officials charged him with committing several federal crimes. This list also includes him acting illegally as a foreign agent. Apparently, he went on to fraudulently get a passport. This information is according to a Reuters News Article and a statement from the Justice Department.
“We allege that for over 40 years, Victor Manuel Rocha served as an agent of the Cuban government and sought out and obtained positions within the United States government that would provide him with access to non-public information and the ability to affect U.S. foreign policy,” said Merrick Garland, the Attorney General.
Rocha is 73 years old. The authorities arrested him. For now, he will appear for a federal trial before a judge in Miami.
